The Wise Man and Virginia

Two different years I had the privilege of viewing the sand sculpture contest at Virginia beach, Virginia. The second year someone had even done the life story of Moses. The sand sculptures are fabulous and you wonder how anyone could do such detail.

They are intricate and well-done and most of them are beautiful. But we all know that they eventually fall apart.

As Kathie Lee Gifford sings in her song “We Can Depend on His Word…”

When all hope is gone. We can still carry on.
We can depend on His Word.

When the rain comes and the pain comes … and we know that it will. He is still just the same. He still calls me by name.

The rain and pain will come and the sand will be demolished as it splits into millions of grains.

The Lord uses a sand sculpture illustration to show us how important it is to build our house not on sand but on solid rock. Unlike rain, rock can withstand a storm

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. (Matthew 7:24)

We read other verses about the Lord being our Rock.

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. (Psalm 18:2)

For who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? (Psalm 18:31)

For you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name’s sake you lead me and guide me (Psalm 31:3)

They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God their redeemer (Psalm 78:35)

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! (Psalm 95:1)

I don’t know what kind of day you’re having today but if you’re having a crumbly-sand day – think about the solidness of our salvation and rejoicel

(And this is a song we forgot last week …

The wise man built his house upon the rock
The wise man built his house upon the rock
The wise man built his house upon the rock
And the rains came tumbling down

The rains came down and the floods came up
The rains came down and the floods came up
The rains came down and the floods came up
And the house on the rock stood firm

The foolish man built his house upon the sand
The foolish man built his house upon the sand
The foolish man built his house upon the…

And the house on the sand went crash.

So build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ.

So build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ.

So build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ.

And the blessings will come down …

The blessings will come down

As the prayers go up etc.
