Clouds

Thanks to Deb del Villar for today’s post.

Whether laying on our back in the grass, floating in the pool, or riding in the car, this is an activity we enjoy – looking at the clouds and sharing what we see. It could be an elephant riding a bicycle, a lion roaring with his mouth wide open, a poodle, a car, or a tent. Imaginations run wild with laughter and squeals of yes, I see that too echoing through the air. Of course, there are times when each of us see something a little different. It is fun to try to explain why you see what you see all the while the cloud is changing shape right before your eyes. Such a fun inexpensive pastime that will create memories that will be cherished and passed down. I remember well doing this with my mother and siblings.

This fun activity can also be used to turn the kids attention to God. You could ask them if God talks about clouds in His Word. In the ESV translation there are 100 verses that speak about clouds. See how many stories they remember that mention clouds. Favorites usually mentioned are Noah and the rainbow in the cloud, Jesus returning to heaven, Moses and the Israelites following the pillar of cloud. Do they know any scriptures that speak of clouds? 1 Thessalonians 4:17 is a favorite about Christ’s return and our reunion with Him. Do they know Isaiah 44:22 “I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions. And like a cloud, your sins…” Even a cloud can be used to share the gospel message with your kids.

As you look up at the clouds, consider asking what does God’s Word teaches about clouds. It could lead to great conversations about His promises, protection, and provisions, causing an impromptu time of praise and worship.
