(Going off the usual schedule this week and posting this on Thursday instead of the usual Friday post.)
This is a week that we in the United States talk a lot about freedom.
Here are some verses about another kind of freedom, the kind that lasts forever. As you have the opportunity this week, why not share them with your kids?
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23) Your kids might already know this verse.
For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:2) Just a great verse to know. (I learned it in the eighth grade when my dad paid me to memorize Romans 8 — a great passage to learn with your kids.)
That the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. (Romans 8:21) Not just people are waiting for freedom from this messed-up world, but all creation.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (2 Corinthians 3:17) True freedom is found in Christ.
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5) A different kind of verse about freedom, but one good for all ages. We are surrounded by people striving to earn as much money as possible, and yes, our kids are also affected by that. So it’s good to remember to keep our lives free from loving money.
Happy Fourth!
