A lot of kids who attend church regularly (but not all) can say the books of the Bible. Some can even rattle them off kind of fast. (One summer we had a contest as to who could say the books of the Bible the fastest and two young girls could do it in 25 seconds by the end of the summer.)
Therefore, a lot of kids know the NAMES of the books – but have no idea who God inspired to write the words or what those words even are.
So why not introduce your kids to Zechariah?
FAME CLAIM: A prophet whom God inspired to write part of the Bible — the book of Zechariah. (Prophets were people who gave God’s message to other people.)
NAME GAME: Zechariah means “God Jehovah Remembers.”
WHAT HE WROTE ABOUT: Prophecies are messages about the future. Zechariah was given more prophecies about the coming of Christ than all the other Minor Prophets put together.
Here are a few of them.
*The Messiah (Christ entering Jerusalem. (9:9)
*The Messiah betrayed for 30 pieces of silver. (11:12-15)
*The Messiah crucified. (12:10)
(Look these verses up and read the prophecies together as a family or kids’ ministry.)
WHAT DOES ZECHARIAH HAVE TO DO WITH ME? God inspired Zechariah to prophesy these events hundreds of years before they actually happened. Only God knows the future. Reading the prophecies of Zechariah and knowing that they came true hundreds of years later is one more reason we know for sure THE BIBLE IS TRUE.
